Readings from Angela Stoner and other poets

Far West Visits Romania

Angela Stoner will be running a residential writing course
9-15 September 2007 in Casa Deluerini in Romania.

This scheme is part of the White Cross mission, which continues to help the young people rescued from Ceaucescu’s orphanages. These young people will serve in the guest house and make visitors welcome

The course each time will be Writing for Connection:

This is a course for anyone who would like to gain insight into personal growth through creative writing. The course provides a way to reconnect with inner dreams, adventure, healing and strength. The whole process takes place within a safe and supportive environment. You do not need to be an experienced writer, and the emphasis is not on publication, although experienced writers of either poetry or prose will find that the process enhances and deepens their writing. Here is just a small selection of what participants have said:

“My expectations have been surpassed. I have realised that I can be and am creative.”
“There was an experience of freeing up of the mind, expansion and a more positive approach to life generally.”

Angela Stoner is a writer, poet and storyteller. Her poetry and short stories have appeared in many journals, such as Mslexia, South, Poetry Cornwall and Acumen. She regularly performs her work at festivals, and her plays have been performed in Hertfordshire and London. Her book Once in a Blue Moon has been described as “truly magical” This work is, set in Cornwall, but also in the realm of myth and dream, and works on many levels. Angela also works as a writing tutor, both freelance and for the local authority, and has provided encouragement and inspiration for writers at all levels.

She is interested in how the writing process enables personal growth, and in turn, how the process of deepening self-awareness enhances writing.. She has contributed to academic journals and books on this subject.

Book launch boat party
The celebration launch party for Once in a Blue Moon was highly successful. The deck was packed with over 50 well-wishers aged from 6 months to 80, who enjoyed the excellent weather, food and unusual ambience. The Ruth proved to be an excellent backdrop for the celebrations. A magnificent vessel, she is normally charted for sailing holidays and is regularly a star at sea festivals. It was highly appropriate to stage the event here, as Once in a Blue Moon has the sea at its heart. The fisherman in the story “searched the seven seas, in search of adventure” and this seems to be the philosophy of the crew of the Ruth, who would not be drawn on whether they have ever seen mermaids! The book will now be among the quality Cornish products which The Ruth promotes on its journeys across the globe.

Only a few copies remain of the original imprint of the book, as it is already reprinting.
